Longshoreman Eddie Carbone lives in Brooklyn with his wife Beatrice and orphaned niece, Catherine, who he has raised and loved as though she was his own daughter. When two of Beatrice’s cousins arrive illegally in the country, Eddie agrees to shelter them and find work for them on the docks. But when one of the immigrants falls in love with Catherine, the kind and admirable Eddie suddenly becomes violently opposed to the romance, an opposition founded on a far too intense love for his niece and the stage is set for tragedy.
