Good clean(ish) fun at the Garrick - Dick Barton review

DO you think life is too serious these days? Are you tired of all the doom and gloom? If the answer to these questions is yes, I think I might be able to help.

Dick Barton and the Curse of the Pharaoh's Tomb is an evening of unbridled silliness, with puns and clever comedy songs inspired by familiar favourites. Charlie Cook's production goes off like a bullet from a gun and the enthusiasm of the cast certainly transmitted to the Altrincham Garrick audience on Tuesday night.

This theatre boasts many fine actors but it's always exciting to come across a new talent. Kieran Buckeridge is charismatic and likeable as Barton, the most English of heroes. Laura Chandler is absolutely brilliant as the villainess of the piece, Marta Heartburn. Her singing voice is equally impressive and versatile. Richard Sails is also very good value as the other baddie, Piggy.

The humour in this laugh out loud spoof is of the saucy, seaside postcard/Carry On variety and this is the sort of show you could take both granny and older kids to see. Each member of the cast makes the most of every line and I feel bad about singling out individual performances because there aren't any bad ones. The cast exhibit a sense of timing that the professionals would be envious of. Enjoy
