The family formerly lived at Brooklands, Sale, before moving to Altrincham. Attended Altrincham Grammar School. He was a Patrol Cadet and Rover in his School’s (3rd Altrincham) Boy Scout Troop. Member of St. Margaret’s Institute tennis club and an active member of the Altrincham Garrick Society. Joined the Home Guard, serving in ‘A’ Coy, 23rd Bn Cheshire Home Guard. Volunteered for the Fleet Air Arm in September 1940 and after training became an Observer, receiving his commission in May 1942. He had already completed one successful mission on the day of his death; he died on his second.
