Extraordinary play that breaks every single rule in the book
It is St George’s Day in “Rooster’s Wood”. The Flintlock Fair can be heard in the distance. Charismatic, drug dealing, Johnny “Rooster” Byron emerges from his caravan in a clearing in the wood and starts his day with a feral bellow. It is the morning after one of his drug, alcohol and loud music fuelled raves. One by one Johnny’s acolytes appear. Lee is on a sofa sleeping off the drugs and alcohol, Pea and Tanya crawl out from under the caravan. Davey appears in dark shades carrying an accordion. The Professor passes through on his way to the fair. The Morris dancing pub landlord Wesley arrives. Ginger is more than miffed to have missed the party. The May Queen Phaedra is missing from home and her step dad Troy is not pleased. Jerusalem captures the Englishness of St George’s day combined with the mythical Rooster stories of giants and astonishing feats. Jerusalem is simply Magic!
