The Refurbishment of the Theatre
In 1999, a £900,000 refurbishment transformed the Garrick, with extensive work undertaken to the theatre frontage, foyer and auditorium, with first-class disabled facilities installed throughout.
The following letter was written be Roger Metcalfe, then Director of Marketing at the Garrick.

Lottery grant landed at third attempt
This is likely to be the most amazing production of the decade
The Arts Council of England National Lottery Grant
The £900,000 refurbishment of Trafford’s major community theatre is coming next at the Garrick!! We are sure that all our Patrons will be delighted to hear, that the theatre has been awarded a grant of £675,000 by the Arts Council of England National Lottery Fund. Work commenced in March 1999 and there will be an extensive refurbishment of the theatre frontage, foyer, auditorium and there will be first class disabled facilities.
We will have to find £225,000 as our part of the funding and we are very nearly there. Our fund raising has gone very well over the past few years, but we do need more money to put the “icing on the cake”. If you would like to donate a seat in the new Auditorium (a plaque with your name will be displayed in the theatre), join our “200” Club (for Just £5.00 per month and a chance to win £30.00 per week and every 10th week, £300, £150 and £100), or make a donation, please contact me on 0161 929 8779.
With the wind in the right direction, we should be on course to reopen in mid September 1999, in what will be one of the finest theatres in the North West, providing quality theatre well into the next Millennium.
We thank you for your past and continued support.
Kindest Regards
Roger Metcalfe
Director of Marketing (as at 1999)
Update:
